In 1890, Abraham Raymer came to Markham with his family in a Conestoga wagon. His grandson Christian constructed this house in the Gothic Revival Style. The Raymers were a prominent Pennsylvania German family in Markham.

       Architectural Attributes
Once located on the west side of Highway # 48, north of 16th Avenue, this Gothic Revival style house was constructed by Christian Raymer in 1871. The full width verandah supports a second story balcony, which has been restored to its original appearance. An unusual feature is the ‘widow’s peak’ or plain pediment, which forms the front centre gable.
