George and Isabel Young  29

Community Markham
Year Constructed:  1903
Address: 71 Main Street North
This house was built for George and Isabel Young in 1903. It was designed and built by their daughter Mabel. Mabel wanted to have a house built for her parents before she would marry. The woodwork was made at the Speight Wagon works where George Young worked, and the metal work was fabricated at the Morgan Blacksmith Shop where Mabel worked. After her parents had moved into the house, Mabel married George Richardson, who had $6.00 left. They were married, bought a stove, a bed and 2 chairs. They lived in a two room house. The Morgan Blacksmith shop was directly across the street on the west side of Main Street.
