Major Button’s Dr. 273

Address: Major Button’s Dr.
Major Button’s Dr.

John Button was promoted to the rank of Major on October 29, 1831, retroactive to November 12, 1827, by Lieutenant Governor Sir John Colborne, retaining command of the troop of cavalry. He seems to have been an acting, or brevet major previous to 1831. His son, Francis, was promoted to the rank of Captain of the troop on November 20, 1831, retroactive to April 9, 1831, also by Colborne. Since the arms which had been issued to the troop during the war had been returned to stores by 1816, Major Button continued through official channels to press the Adjutant-General’s department at York for the reissue of arms appropriate to the cavalry. By 1831, after a long delay, an issue of arms for the militia cavalry was approved.
