Jacob was the descendent of George Pingle and his father Joachim who were two of the original Berczy Settlers, along with six other family members.

Contextual Significance
The Jacob Pingle House is a vernacular interpretation of the Gothic Revival style and is one of the few homes in Markham with the main entrance on the Gable end. An ornate Regency style verandah with bell cast roof and paired posts wraps around three sides of the house. Jacob Pingle and his family resided in this house on the northwest corner of 16th Avenue and McCowan Road. Jacob descends from Joachim Pingle who emigrated from Germany in 1794 and settled in Markham. |
