North Markham Rd. 21

Community Markham
Year Constructed:  1872
Address: 166 Main Street North
As you go north, you will go past some stately homes up to the north end of the town. (Note: The community of Mount Joy came south to meet the Village of Markham.) These homes were built around the time the railway came through Markham in 1872. Senator David Reesor had his Italianate home built for him in 1876. Mr. Reesor was a very public-spirited man. In 1856, he founded the Economist, "a journal of strong reform proclivities". David Reesor became a member of the Legislative Assembly in 1860 and remained so until 1867, the year of Confederation, when he was appointed to the Senate.
