Victoria Square Church and Chapel 107

Community Victoria Square
Year Constructed:  1845
Address: 1072 Woodbine Avenue
The Wesleyan Chapel at Victoria Square is Markham’s oldest remaining historic church, built c. 1845 in the Greek Revival style, with a symmetrical façade and returned eaves, resembling a Greek Temple which is typical of early Methodist chapels. With the construction of the current Victoria Square Church in the 1880s the building was moved to another site in the community where it was reused as a blacksmith shop. In 2003, the church was relocated again within the community y where it is to be restored to serve its original function once again.
