8 Peter Street  70

Community Mount Joy
Year Constructed:  1897
Address: 8 Peter Street
This “Ontario Vernacular” house was built for Allan Monkhouse, born in England. His family emigrated in 1874. This was the second home Allan had built and is the same plan as his first house at 29 Peter Street. His brother, John, owned the planing mill on Main Street where the Shell station is presently situated. Later owners, the Petch family used the rear building as a blacksmith shop.
