15 Main Street North 254

Address: 15 Main Street North Lot #11, Concession #8: 340 008-00
The 200 acre plot of land for Concession 8, Lot 11 was originally granted Mary (McIntyre) Willcocks on March 27th, 1804. The land was sold on January 22nd, 1808 by Mary Willcocks’ husband, Daniel Willcocks, to Henry Lichte for ₤25.

On March 4th, 1814, Lichte sold the land to Joseph Reesor for a price of ₤300.

Joseph Reesor (1777-1861) is believed to be a nephew of Christian Reesor, the son of one of Christian’s brothers who remained in Pennsylvania. Reesor’s farm covered much of where Markham Village now stands, encompassing the southern portion of Main Street North, Jerman Street, Albert Street, Washington Street, Centre Street, Houghton Boulevard and a part of Highway 7. Reesor was a farmer, and was married to Anna Lichty.

Joseph Reesor subdivided this land into lots formally in 1850 through Markham Village Plan 18. He did, however, sell portions of this land at an earlier date. Between 1832 and 1850, Reesor sold small plots of land to numerous people of Markham Township. The plot of land bordered by Highway 7, Main Street Markham, Joseph Street and Washington Street would comprise Block D.

This is now the location of C.M. Furs, a store which specializes is designing, cleaning and repairing fur clothing.
